PD in the Pub 2018


Free for IEU and AEU student and teacher members in their first few years of teaching.

This is a chance to participate in a professional development session with some of the most dynamic presenters currently working with Victorian teachers — and if you are an AEU or IEU member it will cost you nothing. These sessions offer valuable and practical personal development from a top class practitioner in a convivial surrounding.

Not only do you get free PD, you can have a drink at the bar on us and we will issue you with a certificate of participation in the event for VIT registration purposes.

ALL sessions run from 4.30pm–6.00pm and are FREE for IEU and AEU members. Please note that this a members-only programme.

 


Strategies to Create an Engaging Classroom

This practical, hands on workshop will give you the opportunity to meet other teachers, share strategies and feel encouraged with new ideas to take away!  This will include how to engage your learners, build a tribe for learning and promote effective communication and collaboration in the classroom. It’s fun ( even if it’s hard work ) when you learn!

Karen Dymke is a passionate educator who has had a wide range of experience inspiring teachers. She currently lectures at Latrobe University in Contemporary learning for 4th year students and as well as travelling Australia presenting strategies to progress student learning and achievement. She is the Director, coach and  consultant of Thoughtfulworks.

Developing Resilient and Responsible Learners

A student’s ability to be resilient is often dependent on them having the mindset, skills and relationships to work through the normal stresses of life. For many of our students though these are skills and resources that they do not have.  In this practical workshop educators will explore simple techniques and strategies for teaching student how to be resilient in their approach to work, relationships and school.

Jane Langley is a well-known educational consultant with a background in teaching and student wellbeing.   During her career Jane has supported schools in developing strategies for building effective learning environments and managing student behaviour.  Jane believes in the importance of building Positive Learning Environments and explicitly teaching young people to be socially and emotionally competent.

Behaviour Management

Join us for a look at effective classroom and behaviour management — a skill that all teachers need to continually develop. Engaging presenter Glen Pearsall will give you some practical tips to add to your practice. Hone your classroom skills and enjoy a complimentary drink on us.

Glen Pearsall was a teacher at Eltham High School and a board member of the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority. He works throughout Australia as an educational consultant, specializing in positive student behaviour, instructional practice and workload reduction for teachers. His books include Classroom Dynamics and the bestselling And Gladly Teach which are aimed at pre-service and early-career teachers. His latest work, Fast and Effective Assessment, has just been published internationally by ASCD.
