Representation and Support at Work

Member' conditions are protected through industrial agreements negotiated by the IEU, and by active representation of members' issues. Wages, improved career structures, paid parental leave, long service leave, and improved redundancy payments are just some of our achievements.

Information and Support

Union members are entitled to support  and representation whenever an issue arises at work. The provision of information and advice to members is one of the IEU's key functions. Each school day, from 8.30am to 5.00pm (4.30 on Friday), the switchboard is open and a Duty Officer is available to answer queries. IEU members can also access top quality industrial advice through our in-house industrial team.

Call the IEU Office on 03) 9254 1860 or FreeCall 1800 622 889 to speak to one of our team.

WorkCover/Workers' Compensation

The IEU provides advice and support to members who have been injured at work, whether physical injury or stress-related. Expert advice is available in relation to WorkCover (in Victoria) and Workers' Compensation (in Tasmania), including lodging claims, support with conciliation and preparing your return to work. Lump sum claims for permanent injury and negligence cases are also referred to the union's solicitors.

Legal insurance and professional indemnity

When you join the IEU, you are automatically covered by our professional indemnity and legal liability policy. This provides up to $10,000,000 legal protection for you against any claim of negligence related to your employment in the non-government education sector.

Additionally, all Tasmanian members are covered for death/permanent disability for $50,000. For more information or to make a claim, contact the IEU.

Legal Advice

In addition to industrial and professional advice provided by IEU Victoria Tasmania, IEU members can access quality non-work related legal advice through the union’s partner law firms in Victoria and Tasmania, including a free will and first consultation on other non-work matters. A first consultation is free, but any further costs incurred are borne by the member.

Members must contact the IEU for a referral on 03) 9254 1860 of FreeCall 1800 622 889.
