IEU Awards 2023: Luther College Reps and members

Every IEU member deserves an award for helping educate the next generation in ever more demanding workplaces, and Reps, who sacrifice their time so selflessly, always deserve commendation.

But there are some extra special stars we wanted to highlight for their outstanding work this year.

The Luther bargaining team advocated strongly for their wider membership whilst under incredible pressure from school leadership.

The Luther sub-branch also stepped up in solidarity with their bargaining comrades to cover all duties for them in recognition of the extra work they undertook for the betterment of Luther staff.

Despite in-principle agreement not yet being reached on the overall Lutheran deal, the following measures are now included, due to the work of dedicated Reps and members such as those at Luther:

  • For the first time scheduled class time is included within the Agreement and automatic progression is applied to all staff regardless of their time fraction.

  • Parental leave has been increased to 16 weeks and superannuation will be paid on 36 weeks’ of unpaid leave.

  • Partner pay has been increased to 4 weeks and the camp allowance has been raised to $100 per night for all camps.

  • Consultative committee provisions are strengthened, so all 15 covered schools now need to have a functioning CC that meets no less than once a term.

  • Improvements have been made to the General Staff classification structure and 2 more days off have been added to the 3 current Christmas shut down days.
