IEU Awards 2023: Xavier College Reps and members

Every IEU member deserves an award for helping educate the next generation in ever more demanding workplaces, and Reps, who sacrifice their time so selflessly, always deserve commendation.

But there are some extra special stars we wanted to highlight for their outstanding work this year.

This Award is for a member or team who has shown “significant commitment and dynamism in support of a cause”. And those words exactly describe the incredible work of Xavier members and in particular Reps Andrew, Peter, Jacqui, and Nick for their two-year campaign to wrestle Xavier College into an Enterprise Agreement.

The main log items won include:

·         a pay deal more than 11% above State and Catholic wages.

·         a functioning consultative committee

·         protections for General Staff that improve access to all due overtime payments

·         the end of the school’s 100 plus years of unlimited co-curricular Saturday sport freebies.

This amazing team collected over 350 signatures on two petitions, delivered Xavier management the school’s first ever NO vote with a whopping 72% majority NO and attended a Fair Work Commission hearing to stare down the school Principal who attended with three (3) lawyers as part of a PABO application.

Our Organiser at Xavier says: “It has been a privilege to share time with them”.
