CLC Rep Michelle Ramsey says her members, like most across the state, need a fair pay rise and further measures to address workloads.

‘These are essential to ensure our work is sustainable and that we feel valued for the contributions we make every day’.

Members in Michelle’s school also want:

  • A substantial pay rise in line with NSW

  • More clarity regarding the terms of the Agreement

  • Smaller classes

  • No extra yard duties (or compensation where they are required).

How willing are members to take action to achieve those goals?

Teachers have a tendency not to take industrial action, but I feel they may with this Agreement. I’m willing to take part in a rally if that becomes the chosen course of action by our union. However, it’s equally important that we have strong support structures in place to protect and stand by every member involved. Unity and care for each other must go hand in hand with action.

What is your message to members in other Catholic schools?

Let’s stand together as one united voice with a shared purpose: to fight for a fair and just outcome for all. When we are united, our message is stronger and harder to ignore. We need to fight for what we’re truly worth. It’s so important that we achieve equity with the state – that’s how we keep our great teachers.

What is your message to your employer?

Act fairly and be honest with this Agreement rather than dragging it out like the last one. Show your beliefs. Please live out the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church – let those principles guide your decisions and actions in supporting and valuing the people who serve your communities every day.

CLC member response

A CLC IEU member backed up Michelle’s priorities for the new Agreement, adding ‘relevant training for new programs for support staff’. They advised fellow members in other Catholic schools to stay informed and ‘not accept everything you are told unless there is proof from an independent body’.

The member also had a message for their employer.

‘Value your staff’s contribution and worth, and remember that we are professional adults and should not be treated like students. Show greater flexibility, understanding that staff may face personal challenges.’
