In 2011, the Committee of Management of IEU Tasmania voted to amalgamate with the Victorian Independent Education Union. The decision was made knowing that this would provide members in Catholic schools with more collective strength and extensive industrial and legal support. Since that date, we have seen unprecedented industrial action in pursuit of fair outcomes for all and negotiated two collective agreements that have significantly improved the working lives of members. The IEU operates an office in Hobart in the Unions Tasmania building, with two dedicated organisers and administrative support.
