We’ve always been
on your side
The IEU is the collective voice and leading advocate for staff in Tasmanian Catholic education. We’ve fought for and won a lot for our members.
From achieving pay parity with Government schools, to enforceable consultation provisions, paid parental leave, improved employment security and better salaries and career structures for education support staff – the list goes on. These wins have come through active member campaigns, Agreement negotiations, and robust enforcement of conditions. We continue to fight to improve the working lives and professional development of teachers and Education Support staff.

The Tasmanian Catholic Education Single Enterprise Agreement 2024 was achieved following a tough, drawn-out campaign.
It took information ‘blitzes’ of schools, a submission to the Fair Work Commission for a protected action ballot order, widespread media engagement, and repeated member actions, but in early September 2024, in-principle agreement was finally reached on a deal for staff in Tasmanian Catholic schools. It was industrial action – and the threat of it – that finally moved employers to drop contentious claims, and end their resistance to badly-needed improvements in conditions, after three years of delayed negotiations.
