Support the AEU Strike on 24 March!
We are calling on all sub-branches to find a way to express clear and visible support for the actions of AEU members.
On Tuesday 24 March, our colleagues in government schools will be taking a full day strike action to support their claim for long-overdue salary increases and improvements to working conditions. Their fight is our fight, and we need to show our solidarity!
Unlike Catholic employers in every other state and territory, the VCEA is continuing to deny Victorian Catholic educators access to basic bargaining rights. While the legal dispute continues, IEU members cannot yet take protected industrial action – but the outcome in the government sector will shape what we can win in Catholic education.
That’s why we are calling on all sub-branches to find a way to express clear and visible support for the actions of AEU members.
Ideas for actions that have come from IEU Reps around the state:
Holding a sub-branch meeting and sending a message of support to local AEU members
Organise a “Wear it Black” day
Rallying outside the school gates before the start of the school day
Getting together for a photo of the sub-branch proudly sending a message to your employer
Hosting a special morning tea with a message
Getting together as a sub-branch and emailing employers with a demand for fair bargaining rights
We ask all members to support their sub-branch Rep as they organise a solidarity activity. The VCEA can try to deny us the right to strike, but they can’t stop us from standing together to demand better!
Send a message!
Hundreds of IEU members have already used our campaign tool to email their employer, asking them to reject the divisive delaying tactics of the VCEA. Have you?
We know that employers are increasingly uncomfortable with the out-of-touch stance of the VCEA – together we can encourage them to push back and to be a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem!
Once you follow the link, you will see a list of all 33 respondent employers: find yours and click ‘Send Message’ to add your voice.
You can edit the pro-forma message if you wish: what’s important is that your employer hears directly how you feel about the impacts of the VCEA’s stance.
