The IEU is growing in size and strength – and that’s good news for every member!

More members means greater collective strength, more resources, stronger campaigning capacity and better support for every member. By any measure, it’s been an outstanding year for the growth of your union.

Since the start of the school year, we have welcomed over 3000 new members. That recruitment success has translated into net membership growth of more than 1,250 members – that’s record growth for the IEU and a remarkable result at a time when many unions are finding membership growth challenging.

The huge membership gains we saw in Victorian Catholic education during our campaign for a fair Agreement have continued in 2026.

Since February, Catholic secondary schools have recorded net growth of 354 members, while Catholic primary schools have grown by 269 members – a combined increase of 623 members.

However, our growth is not just about one campaign – another standout story has been membership growth across Victorian independent schools. Our net growth in these sub-branches has hit 610 since February, providing a huge boost to our power and capacity in this sector.

Tasmanian membership has been modest after several years of solid growth in both Catholic and independent education. We look forward to building engagement and recruitment over coming months, particularly as Tasmanian Catholic bargaining progresses.

This growth is testament to the commitment of our Reps and members – this is your union. You know why we need to grow in size and strength, you know how important membership is for each individual worker, and you are the face of the IEU in our workplaces.
