Subject: Victorian Catholic bargaining – where the latest offer stands 

Dear colleagues, 

I wanted to share a quick update on bargaining for our new Victorian Catholic Agreement. 

The VCEA made a new offer late last term. There is real movement on salaries and some other entitlements, including significant pay increases broadly aligned with the government-school outcome, a $2,000 sign-on payment, improved leave provisions, camp allowances and additional professional practice days. 

But there are also some important issues that the IEU is continuing to pursue. 

The current offer does not match the government-school improvements to teacher workload and planning time. It would introduce a new five-day model for out-of-hours duties instead of recording individual TIL, affect current overtime arrangements for many ES employees, reduce many part-time teachers’ pay, restrict some existing workplace flexibility and move teacher TIL protections out of the Agreement. There are also unresolved issues involving positions of leadership, camps, part-time work and a number of important clauses that are still being negotiated.  

Importantly, bargaining is not finished. 

The IEU is meeting with the employers twice a week and is continuing to push for improvements before members are asked to make a judgment about the overall package. 

Once those negotiations have progressed as far as possible, IEU members will receive a short online survey asking for their views on the offer and the next steps in bargaining.
