IEU win: Deal endorsed at Eastside Lutheran College

The IEU has endorsed a new Agreement at Eastside Lutheran College (ELC) in Tasmania, securing salary increases and key improvements to working conditions.

Salary increases

One of the key goals in bargaining was to ensure that salaries returned to being competitive with those paid in government schools, after falling behind in 2024. This was successfully achieved through salary increases of 1.5% backdated to July 2024 and a further 3% backdated to February 2025. Further increases in 2026 and 2027 have been set at a minimum of 2.5%, with potential for more based on factors like enrolments, inflation, and Education Department pay rises

Improvements to working conditions

Key benefits negotiated in the new Agreement include:

  • Workload limits: Maximum face-to-face teaching hours set at 21.5 for primary teachers and 19 for secondary teachers.

  • New Consultative Committee to improve workplace communication.

  • Annual pay progression for both full-time and part-time staff.

  • Increased redundancy payments, aligning with the Victorian Lutheran Agreement.

  • Ability to take personal leave in advance if balance is exhausted.

  • Parental leave: 18 weeks for primary carers, 4 weeks for secondary carers.

  • Family Violence Leave: Increased to 20 days per year.

  • Camp allowance doubled from $50 to $100 per night.

  • Meal allowance to increase annually.

  • Junior rates of pay increased.

The Agreement is currently in its access period, and the union expects it to be approved.
